What a great week this has been to start the garden! Please remember it's primarily the cool weather crops at this time (see our KC area planting schedule and follow it). Potatoes, lettuce, radishes, peas, cabbage and onions are ready now. Don't believe that potatoes must be planted by St. Patrick's Day. They can be planted here up until the first of June. It's also the perfect time to plant strawberries and asparagus. We've never seen pansies and violas look better than this spring. The blooms are huge! If you want something truly special, check out our 'Citrus Mix'. They look absolutely beautiful. Here's a couple of great hints for your successful garden: Hint #1 Plant seeds, any seeds, only 4 times their diameter deep. Barely cover lettuces and 1/3 - 1/2" deep for peas and beans. Most new gardeners plant way too deep. Hint #2 Add organic Espoma Tomato Tone to your onions for improved flavor.
I'll do my best to offer simple tips every couple of weeks throughout the spring.
